ATHENS FROM ABOVE

The city that brought us together

You came from across Europe. For four days, Athens was home.

The Athens story

Some of the most important moments happened between the meetings.

In Athens, the European HR community came together to exchange perspectives, challenge assumptions and build relationships. The programme took you into meeting rooms, museums, neighbourhoods and shared tables. What connected these moments was the people behind them.

01 / DIALOGUE

Ideas across borders

The Delegates Assembly created space for colleagues from European associations to connect and collaborate.

02 / PERSPECTIVE

From policy to practice

Pay Transparency in Europe — The Greek Perspective brought the conversation to the realities facing organisations and HR leaders.

03 / CONNECTION

Beyond the agenda

Athens became a shared experience through its culture, hospitality and spontaneous conversations.

VOICES OF EUROPE · IN THEIR OWN WORDS

They came as delegates.
They left with stories.

Key takeaways · six messages from the day

01

Transparency is trust, not just compliance

Transparency is about people: fairness first, then credibility and, last, trust.

“Pay transparency is not just pay, it’s about fairness, it’s about trust, it’s about our people.”Maria Kolokytha, President, GPMA
02

The burden of proof moves to the employer

The employee no longer has to prove there is a problem; the organisation has to show there isn’t one.

“It was the employee who had to prove the difference and now it’s the employer that has to explain its decision.”Chryssiis Poulakou, employment lawyer
03

Managers are the front line

The first question about pay will reach a line manager, not HR. That is where it becomes a leadership issue.

“There’s no one knocking on the door of HR to ask a question. They’re going to go straight to their manager.”Anne Phelan, reward expert
04

Explainable decisions, not perfect systems

Clear criteria that are actually applied, and a pay framework kept simple enough to explain.

“Completing one real review can teach us much more than discussing an ideal process for months.”Chryssiis Poulakou
05

HR’s moment

Transparency gives HR its seat at the management table, and good organisations a chance to stand out.

“If HR departments do not seize the opportunity now, they’re just going to be left with just doing the administration.”Konstantinos Takos, panel
06

From “if” to “how”

Greece has made its choice, and the rest of Europe will be watching what it learns.

“Pay transparency is no longer a question of if, it’s a question of how.”Niki Kerameus, Minister of Labour and Social Security
